Hey Gang! Everybody wants a piece of Roy's history... Offers welcome. Contact Guitars West. This one is truly special....It's not everyday the phone rings with a guitar once Owned by Legendary Telecaster player Roy Buchanan. We were lucky enough to receive that exact call, and of course, asked for provenance. They delivered. The player purchased the guitar by personal check from Roy in December of 1984, and for those who remember, they used to return your checks to you after it cleared with the recipient's endorsement. This was returned with Roy's signature. We are happy to share upon request. The story goes, the previous owner's father used to play with Roy in VA and at some point bought the Guitar direct from the man himself just a few years before Roy's untimely passing. So much can be said about the man himself, but we're here for one thing, and that is this incredible piece of music history. This 1978/81 Fender Telecaster Custom Natural Finish Maple Neck - If you plan on playing this instrument, we made sure it's ready for just that. Frets are in superb condition and the action is set. We plugged it into a Vibrolux Reverb and did the "Full Out" method. Needless to say, we get it. What an incredible sound. That bridge to middle to neck position are all so colorful and have phenomenal tone. We had some fun, but quickly put this one back in the original molded case to preserve the legend.Brand: FenderModel: Telecaster CustomSerial: S7816709 / 02 26 81Color: NaturalWeight: 9lbs 9ozBody: AshNeck: MapleNeck Profile: CFretboard: RosewoodFret count: 21Nut width: 1.58"Scale: 25.5"String gauge: 10-46Hardware Color: ChromeTelecaster Single Coil Bridge Pickup Original?: YesFender Wide Range Neck Pickup Original?: YesVol/Tone Pots: 1979Pickguard: Triple-Ply OriginalBridge: OriginalSteel SaddlesTuners: OriginalSwitch: 3-Way OriginalCase: Original Molded Hard CasePRIOR TO PURCHASING: If you have ANY questions, comments or concerns, please contact us before purchasing this item!! About Telecaster

The Fender Telecaster, known affectionately as the "Tele," emerged as the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitar, marking a significant milestone in music history. Its straightforward design and innovative sound paved the way for new trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music. Since its debut in the 1950s, the Telecaster has been celebrated for its versatility, serving artists across genres from country to jazz, rock, and beyond. Its solid construction, characterized by a single-cutaway body made typically from alder or ash and a bolt-on maple neck, contributes to its distinct, bright, and cutting tone as well as a warm, mellow sound depending on pickup selection. With minor modifications over the years, the Telecaster has remained largely faithful to its original design, featuring two single-coil pickups, a three-way selector switch, and simple volume and tone controls. This enduring design has kept the Telecaster relevant and in continuous production, solidifying its status as a beloved icon in the guitar world.
