The Ducati 996 was a sports motorcycle manufacturer from 1999 to 2002, based on the earlier Ducati 916. It was in production for only four years until it was replaced in 2002 by the Ducati 998. At first, there were available three models, the base or Biposto models, the Ducati 996S fitted with race-derived Ohlins suspensions, and the 996SPS with a more powerful engine and less weight due to the use of carbon fiber and titanium parts.
