A Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth with 9,180 miles and the same owner from new. MODEL HISTORY Five hundred extra special examples of the 150 mph Ford Sierra RS Cosworth went on sale in Britain on the 1st August 1987. This more powerful ‘evolution’ model was introduced to allow Ford to develop the original limited production run of 5,000 needed to allow the car to be homologated for International Touring Car Racing in Group A. Aston Martin at Tickford were assigned with converting the 500 cars and in addition to the more powerful 224bhp YBD engine, (with the potential to exceed 400bhp in race trim), numerous aerodynamic features were incorporated in the bodywork. These include a 30mm lip spoiler applied directly to the rear edge of the tailgate to increase rear downforce. New and larger cooling ducts were included in the design of the front bumper for the intercooler and the front brakes, as well as an aerodynamic splitter. Ford’s intention was for every RS500 to be finished in Black but limited stock of the regular Cosworths resulted in 56 Diamond White and 52 Moonstone Blue being converted. The vehicle was only available through 90 specialist Ford RS (Rally-Sport) dealers in Britain and was a £4,000 premium over a standard RS Cosworth. (Source: Ford News Release 87/76). This example is build number 404/500. EQUIPMENT Bodyside mouldings, integral front air dam, electrically operated colour coded heated door mirrors, colour coded lockable fuel filler cap, single slot grille with bonnet cooling vents, halogen headlamps, single plane rear wing spoiler with trailing edge fence, lower tailgate mounted spoiler, tinted glass, wiper spoilers, tailgate wash/wipe, laminated windscreen, central locking with torch key, extended centre console, cigar lighter, quartz digital clock, fascia light dimmer, leather gear knob and three-spoke sports steering wheel, 3-speed heater fan, cassette storage, electronic sound system (Model ECU2) with power amplifier, electric aerial, Recaro Sports front seats, tilt and slide sunroof, tachometer with turbo boost gauge, trip recorder, Clear Hands warning lights, electric front windows, first aid kit, front fog lamps (not fitted but supplied). Dealer Accessories; Ford rubber mats EXTERIOR The dramatic exterior of this RS Cosworth is nothing short of magnificent. Finished in the rarest colour, Moonstone Blue, (Code K6 and just one of 52 made), the paintwork boasts a deep gloss shine from the first paint unrestored factory finish credentials complete with orange peel. All exterior trim and crystal clear lights are free from damage as is the vulnerable front splitter. The rare factory Glacetex tinted front screen has delaminated slightly at the edges and the blue oval Ford badges have minor aging to the chrome edge, all left to uphold absolute factory fitted perfection. The unique silver coachline and RS500 decals are present and original as are dealer supplied front and rear number plates. Date stampings are visible on key areas such as the inner wings, slam panel and tailgate but more remarkable are delicate stickers and PDI labels still attached in the wheel arches. The underside is sheer collectors heaven, perfectly clean, untouched and with all factory markings clearly visible. Even the alignment marks on the front subframe can be seen! A truly incredible car in astonishing preserved condition and a blueprint for any RS500. INTERIOR Finished in Ford Roma Grey, (Code S2), the Recaro seats and carpeted door trims are in remarkable condition with no wear or discolouration and absolutely commensurate with the low mileage fastidious one custodian from new credentials. The Beaumont cloth headlining has no sagging and even the red and green circular seatbelt buckle stickers and Recaro frame stickers remain attached! The boot area is factory fresh with a multitude of coloured floor pan stickers and marker pen inscriptions. It really does not get much better for any car, let alone an RS500! All the stickers are original and even the fuse box cover is present and undamaged. Amazingly, untouched factory wax is still visible on the slam panel and the bonnet release catch still has the yellow PDI circular sticker! The gear changes are solid with progressive clutch action. The spare is the original and never used Dunlop SP Sport D40 205/50 VR15 tyre with Ford weights. Four wheel disc brakes with ABS and a hydraulic booster stop the car with confidence. HISTORY FILE It is difficult to convey the amount and how comprehensive the history file is for this Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth build number 404/500. Built December 1986 at the Genk assembly plant in Germany to arrive at the Ford appointed Aston Martin Tickford factory on the 23rd July 1987. Works completed and signed off, the vehicle was dispatched on the 5th August to Stormont Ford Merseyside Limited to be supplied to its one and only custodian, Mr McIntosh. The original Telex order sent by Mr McIntosh along with purchase correspondence from Stormont Ford confirms the purchase by himself for the vehicle to be registered on the 25th August 1987 to his company, Church & Bramhall Sections Ltd. Upon retirement in August 2002 the vehicle was registered to him personally. The new vehicle sales invoice reveals a price paid of £20,249.55 with a subsequent invoice for £332.48 for a Ford remote alarm, (now removed and replaced by a Thatcham Category 1 Toad alarm in 2011). Subsequently and without any doubt, Mr McIntosh was a fastidious owner retaining every document from Ford recall letters to regular service invoices and MOT certificates. This record keeping even extends to neatly filing every insurance cover note, tax disc and SORN letter. The history file not only confirms his care and upkeep for this pampered car but also his dedication for the RS brand by keeping annual RS Owner Club Membership letters and reaching milestone certificates and memorabilia for continual membership. Not one for public displays or shows, the vehicle was rarely seen out of his property but is obviously known and registered with the RS Owners Club. Such was his protection for the vehicle that when a house renovation commenced in 2022 and in fear of it being seen or worst still, damaged, he placed the car in secure temperature controlled storage locally. With the ongoing rise in values and public interest combined with poor health the very difficult decision was made to sell the vehicle and upon purchasing, KGF Classic Cars embarked on the Specialist Cosworth services of Harvey Gibbs at Supreme Car Services. A major service and cambelt change along with all fluids have been changed making the car A1 mechanically and ready for immediate enjoyment should the next lucky owner wish. MOT April 2025, HPI Clear. Please Google 'KGF Classic Cars Youtube' and 'KGF Classic Cars Flickr' for a HD video and multiple detailed HR photos of this vehicle.
