Description

First registered July 1969 (H Suffix) this Jaguar E-Type Series II 4.2 Manual Roadster was supplied by British Leyland New York, although subsequently kept in Paramount California. It remains in its original supplied colour scheme of Old English White with Black interior. It was imported in 2017 by its sole UK keeper and re-registered here in August 2017 and subsequently restored by E-Type UK, (see below) with a bill for 50,000. It remains in Left-hand-drive form although we can recommend companies that can convert the steering to our side for around 8,000 should its new keeper require. With 68,000 miles recorded which according to the MoT History is likely to be correct but we are unable to verify this given the age of the car. This example of a desirable model is in exceptional condition presenting incredibly well, and as a properly restored California kept car it is structurally very sound. The Series 2 E-Type introduced several design changes, largely due to US mandates, which was the largest market for the car. The most distinctive exterior feature is the absence of the glass headlight covers. Other hallmarks of Series 2 cars are a wrap-around rear bumper, larger front indicators and taillights re-positioned below the bumpers, and an enlarged grille and twin electric fans to aid cooling. Additional changes included a steering lock which moved the ignition switch to the steering column, replacing the dashboard mounted ignition and push button starter, the symmetrical array of metal toggle switches were replaced with rockers, and a collapsible steering column to absorb impact in the event of an accident. Newly designed seats allowed the fitment of head rests. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial "ribbed" appearance. Some 8,600 open top cars were produced, of which the vast majority were Left-hand-drive and destined to cross the Atlantic. After importation the body was taken down to bare metal and restored including new a bonnet. It was returned to European spec removing quarter lights etc. All the bright work has been re chromed including windscreen surround and front and rear bumpers and a new set of MWS wire wheels. A new dash top and new mohair roof were also fitted. Restored triple SU carburettors and correct manifolds and air filters and a 321 Bluetooth distributor were fitted for ease of tuning and reliability. All rubber bushes on the car have been replaced and upgraded. A new radiator, correct fuel pump, new clutch, prop shaft Universal Joints and a stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted. The differential was replaced with fully reconditioned European 3.07 spec one from Alan Slawson (AJS engineering), this completely transforms the driving experience of the car in every gear. All shock absorbers and springs have been replaced. Although MoT exempt, we will provide a fresh MoT at sale for peace of mind. To be supplied with a three-month warranty. We regard this car as a very good example that will, if properly looked after will have no further major cost implications. Whilst opinions may vary, we like the series II cars very much as they keep the rawness of the six-cylinder cars, but as the model progressed improvements were made to improve reliability and driveability, plus they are very good value in comparison to Series 1 cars.
