The recipe for a sports car is usually simple, you mount the engine at the front, send the power to the wheels and put a manual gearbox in the middle. But Porsche has bucked that trend for more than 60 years.
Their rear engined 911 has become the benchmark for sportscars, and throughout the past 6-decades has spawned supercars, prototypes, off-roaders and generations of automotive enthusiasts. Ultimately though, the 911 still wears the crown of practical sports car.
This 991.1 generation Carrera is the perfect example of what makes the 911 so great. The 991, 7th generation 911 was launched at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This particular example was supplied in March of 2013 by Porsche Centre Kendal.
Externally, it is finished in Porsche Platinum Silver. It’s well known that Germany’s national racing colour is Silver, so a traditional shade for a German sports car, but unlike GT Silver, Platinum Silver has hints of brown that make for a warmer tone.
The paintwork is in excellent condition, thanks in part to a G-Techniq protection coating applied by Porsche Centre Sutton Coldfield in 2022. The wheels are 5-double spoke 19” items, staggered naturally to fill the 911’s naturally wide hips. Clear glass, xenon headlights and clear indicates complete the subtle understated appearance.
Inside it’s all about class, the seats, dash and door-cars are all finished in luxurious beige leather. The comfort seats feature perforated central panels to offer a sportier feel. The multi-function steering wheel, gear lever and carpets are all finished to match as well. In Front of the PDK gear lever you’re met with Porsche’s PCM infotainment unit, automated climate control whilst on the centre console controls to raise and lower the rear spoiler and to engage sport mode which sharpens up the throttle map and gear changes.
Under the rear decklid, you’ll find a 3.4-litre flat-six mated to a PDK gearbox. It’ll produce around 345bhp which is more than enough. As a Carrera it is one of the lighter variants of 911 available, meaning despite its by today’s standards relatively tame power figures, this car has plenty of power to make use of.
The engine runs perfectly, and the car drives immaculately. This is no doubt thanks to retaining a full Porsche service history:

08/2021 - 32,248 miles - Service - Porsche Centre Glasgow

The 911 is the ultimate daily driver sports car, and in Carrera form it beats out its competitors in driveability, usability and its ability to fly under the radar. It’s an icon that isn’t pretentious, it’ll be everything you hope for from Porsche ownership, but without the complicated burden of a flash and ostentatious alternative. This example with its Platinum over Beige colour combination with the immensely capable PDK gearbox is one of the best to buy and represents extraordinary value for money.
As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
