Mercedes 107s must be one of the most iconic and memorable cars of the 80’s. Everybody of a certain age will remember these cars making regular TV and film appearances. Jennifer Hart in her yellow SL in Hart to Hart. Pam and Bobby Ewing in their red SL in Dallas. They continually appeared on the silver screen when a film director wanted to express class and wealth. I remember seeing these cars on TV. They represented the ultimate in German chic. You had to be both mega wealthy and appreciate the attention to detail that was only seen in German brands in the 1980s.
With an incredible 18-year production run (1971 to 1989) the R107 is the second longest running single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz, only outdone by the G-Class. In the 70’s the German manufacturer noticed a gap in the US market and looked to exploit it with the luxurious, sophisticated and unparalleled craftsmanship of the 300SL. It was the epitome of deluxe roadsters with a larger engine. The silky smooth M103 strait 6 engine was produced in 3.0 litre form with 188 BHP and 260 Nm.
The 300SL is a true head-turner with its classic lines and distinctive design. Blended with the very finest German engineering, making the SL the perfect car for the enthusiast.
Finding decent examples today is very hard. These cars were a victim of their own success. Driven as daily cars for the first 20 years of their lives and often falling in to the wrong hands of owners who did not maintain them to a standard they deserved. We are delighted to be able to offer this absolutely stunning example. Sold to the last two owners by the SL shop, this SL has wanted for nothing. Without a doubt one of the finest examples we have seen.
