The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was the first Ferrari Grand Tourer with the ability to seat four adults in comfort. Penned by Frank Stephenson, under Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina, it is said that its design, especially the strident side scallops and headlights, pays homage to the coach built 1954 375 MM. The 612 was produced at Ferrari’s Carrozzeria Scaglietti plant, the former home of the car’s namesake coachbuilder in Modena Italy.
The 612 was Ferrari’s second all-aluminium vehicle and comprised of a spaceframe chassis manufactured in conjunction with Alcoa, this was a combination of extrusions and castings to which the body was welded. The same chassis formed the basis of Ferrari’s 599 GTB flagship Grand Tourer. The front, mid-mounted, V12 powerplant was shared with the 575 Superamerica and was not, as the cars name suggests, six litres. The 612’s V12 was in fact a 5.7 litre which was capable of developing a healthy 533bhp which produced impressive performance figures. The Scaglietti could reach 62mph in just 4.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 195 mph. A total of just 3,025 examples were manufactured between 2004 and 2011, all but 199 of which featured the F1gearbox.
