8vo, pp. 197. Original tan boards, lettered in black to spine. Illustrated dustwrapper. Corners lightly bumped, but a near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper, wear to spine ends and top edge of front panel. First edition. Cat On A Hot Tin Roof received its premiere in New York in 1955, directed by Elia Kazan and starring Ben Gazzara and Barbara Bel Geddes, and has scarcely been off stage since. The film version, made in 1958 and starring Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor, was strong on the play's sweltering sultriness, but had to be filleted of all references to Brick's not-so-latent homosexuality. Even so, it was too hot for the Academy, which gave it six nominations but no Oscars. The dustwrapper on this book is notoriously flimsy; this one has survived much better than most. A very nice copy.
