First edition, first printing, together with a signed photograph of Vivien Leigh. Leigh played Blanche DuBois in the first London production of this Pulitzer-Prize winning drama in 1949, and she starred opposite Marlon Brando in the film version.
The 1951 adaptation "was one of the most significant films ever made... Even Williams admitted: 'This is the first time I have seen a stage play actually increase with stature when transferred to screen'" (Kolin, p. 151). Leigh (1913-1967) won her second Oscar with her performance, which is still lauded as one of the best seen on the American screen. The loosely inserted press photograph for the film, dated 1954, was issued as a postcard in Germany.
