First edition, first impression, in the second issue dust jacket, signed by the author on the title page. This was Minette's first full-length crime novel and received a John Creasey award for best debut.
The first issue jacket, which has two faces visible on the front panel and is without Colin Dexter's review on the rear panel, is very scarce.
Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket.
Spine cocked with bump to foot, a little foxing to edges and endpapers. A near-fine copy, cloth bright, in like jacket, spine ends nicked, front flap and verso a touch foxed, chip to head and foot of rear flap, unclipped, clean and sharp.
