Description

"The Happy Return" by C.S. Forester. London: Michael Joseph, (1937). First edition, first issue jacket (though possibly price-clipped, it has the review for The General on the rear panel). Review copy with the publisher's review slip laid-in. Publisher's green cloth, the spine tooled in silver, in the dust jacket. 7 3/8 x 4 3/4 inches (18.5 x 12.5 cm); 287, [1] pp. A generally sound copy of the jacket, with some edge wear including a small chip to the spine (the detached material still adhering), small losses and a short tear to the head of the jacket spine, the interior of the jacket foxed, its spine toned, the cloth of the binding a bit faded at the spine, some edge foxing to the text block (and a very few spots internally), but all-in-all a rather nice copy overall. The first published of the "Hornblower" novels, quite scarce in a sound copy of the jacket.
