First edition, first state, with the publisher's imprint to the spine.
An ingenious toy book: the reader could take the die-cut figures and assemble them into three-dimensional models which, when placed on the provided sloping runway, would "waddle" down it under their own weight. The waddling figures portray Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, and the Wizard.
Quarto. Original green cloth, illustration pasted down to front board, titles to spine in black. With dust jacket. Housed in a green flat back cloth box by the Chelsea Bindery. W. W. Denslow illustrations throughout including 8 colour plates.
Inscription to verso of the dedication page, short closed tear to first three pages at fore edge, corners and ends of spine lightly worn and rubbed, spine lightly faded, mild bumping to rear cover edges, hinges starting, in the a fantastically bright dust jacket with light wear to flap folds and ends of spine, mild creasing and very short closed tears to top edges.
Complete with the 6 full colour printed pages containing the "waddles", the pages have been detached from the book but not from the page itself, they remain in bright and unused condition, original paper instructional envelope including the full colour runway "The Yellow Brick Road" is also present with slight wear to the edges, brass waddle fittings are present.
A truly exceptional copy, with only the paper band which held the instructional envelope to the book lacking.
