Second book edition of 'The Little White Bird' in Russian translation. The only edition of this translation in the new orthography.Lifetime edition. One of 3 500 copies published. 'The Little White Bird' (1902) was first published in Russian in the magazine 'Letopis' ' in 1917, and the following year it was released as a book. J.M. Barrie's famous character Peter Pan was introduced to Russian readers through this translation. The translation was prepared by Avgusta Damanskaia (1877-1959), a female writer, prominent translator, and literary critic who emigrated in 1920 and settled in Paris. However, her life as an émigré was marked by poverty and uncertainty. In a letter to Maxim Gorky, the notable Soviet writer and founder of the World Literature ('Vsemirnaia literatura') publishing house, she requested financial assistance for translations that had been published in the USSR.
