VERY RARE FIRST UK TRADE PAPERBACK EDITION, published in London by Paladin in 1972. There was NO first UK hardcover edition. Illustrated in b&w by Ralph Steadman. Copyright page notes: "Granada Publishing Limited. First published in Great Britain 1972 by Paladin. Copyright 1971" (with no later printing dates). The classic work (along with Ralph Steadman's classic illustrations) first appeared as a two-part series (as authored by 'Raoul Duke') in Rolling Stone magazine, issue 95, November 11, 1971 and issue 96, November 25, 1971. It was first published in book form, with additional illustrations by Steadman, in "1971" (as is usually noted, though it was actually 26 June 1972, as per publisher's review slip) by Random House, New York. This copy is the much rarer FIRST UK EDITION published in SOFTCOVER in the same year 1972 by Paladin, London. As noted, there was NO hardcover first edition published in the UK. Front cover illustration by Ralph Steadman. Rear cover original printed publication prices show: "UK 40p, Canada $1.25, South Africa 95c, Singapore $4.00, Australia & New Zealand $1.25".
