It was first published in book form, with additional illustrations by Steadman, in "1971" (as is usually noted, though it was actually 26 June 1972, as per publisher's review slip) by Random House, New York. This copy is the much rarer FIRST UK EDITION published in SOFTCOVER in the same year 1972 by Paladin, London. As noted, there was NO hardcover first edition published in the UK.
