First US edition, first printing, of the first Mary Poppins book, originally published in the UK in the same year. This edition is more commonly found in a blue and white dust jacket which matches the blue cloth of the binding. This copy features the purple and white dust jacket, which matches the colour of the top edge.
"If Peter Pan and Alice sat down in Wonderland to write a story for their own amusement, the result might be a book like Mary Poppins" (blurb). The Mary Poppins series would eventually number eight titles. The Disney film was released in 1964, with a sequel in 2018. A musical adaptation was first performed in 2004.
