Uncorrected proof copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title to the publisher William Targ: "For Bill Targ all good somethings Truman".
Targ (1907-1999) was formerly editor in chief of G. P. Putnam's Sons, where he is noted for publishing Mario Puzo's The Godfather. Following his retirement in 1978 he founded Targ Editions, to publish works by contemporary writers which had not previously been published separately or in English. Each copy was issued signed, the design and production influenced by the ideals of the private press movement.
Music for Chameleons was Capote's final book, a collection of short stories "consisting of some of his most effective prose" (ANB).
Octavo. Original orange wrappers printed in black. Housed in custom purple cloth box.
Slight crease at top outer corner of half-title, else fine.
