First edition. Original sage green cloth lettered in gilt. Author's own copy with his bookplate to the front pastedown. A near fine copy with an erased inscription to the front endpaper and a little foxing to the page edges, but bright and clean. The author's first book which predates his famous 'Dance to the Music of Time' series by twenty years. Written whilst he was working at Duckworth, he was able to supervise the production of the book himself.

Anthony Powell's first novel, 'Afternoon Men', is a satirical take on the lives of young adults in 1930s London. The book introduces themes of social interaction and ennui that are central to Powell's later works.
