217p octavo, illustrated with lithographs by Jean Cocteau. and signed by Cocteau "a John Moses Jean Cocteau" who adapted the play for the French theatre. Additionally inscribed by Paule de Beaumont "To John Moses Paule de Beaumont" who wrote the introduction. And finally another inscription "To John Moses Arletty" who played 'Blanche' in the French production. Arletty, one of the more famous French actors who had an affair with a Nazi General during the occupation but because of her fame did not have her head shaved and was sentenced to 2 months prison plus a 7 month house arrest at a gracious mansion outside Paris. Laid in is a card, folded announcing an exposition of gouaches by James Pichette Dec 15 1949 to Jan 13 1950 at Librairie Paul Morihein with a 2 page printed note by Max-Pol Fouchet (expert on Wilferdo Lam). Very foxed throughout, mostly uncut, spine darkened. Jacket heavily chipped and separating but all there.
