First edition in a period custom binding of 1/2 black morocco, marbled paper-covered boards, spine panel lettered in gilt and with 5 raised bands, speckled text block edges (original wraps not retained). Slight surface scuff to leather on top back cover corner, a few areas of rubbing with exposure along cover edges (leather fully intact). Endpapers mildly tanned, with offsetting from wrapped leather corners. Initial signatures (through p. 40) slightly projecting along fore-edge, all leaves firmly bound. Clean, unmarked interior. [viii],138 pp., no ads at rear. 1st edition, preceding the London edition, in a handsome binding dating nearly to original publication, first issue with 7 1/4" tall text block, boards just a hair shy of 7 1/2".
