8vo., Trade Edition, with coloured frontispiece (original captioned tissue guard present), title-vignette, 23 fine coloured plates (all original captioned tissue guards present) and endpaper maps on green stock, fore-edge very lightly dust-soiled; original green buckram, upper board blocked in gilt and pink, gilt back, expertly rebacked with original backstrip laid down, a very good, bright, firm copy. This copy is something of a curiosity, for it seems to match no recorded edition. Following Riall as closely as possible It is clearly a variant of the second issue of the Trade Edition: (a) gilt backstrip; (b) 24 plates; (c) no gilt top. BUT (a) upper board blocked in gilt and pink; (b) front and rear endpaper maps; (c) list of contents; (d) list of illustrations; (e) 'Little White Bird' on title verso. A VERY SCARCE UNRECORDED VARIANT. Latimore & Haskell makes no mention of this all; see Riall, pp.105-6;
