First Edition. A fine copy in a lightly nicked dust jacket. Presentation copy; inscribed by the author; 'For Harriet Walden, that brilliant secretary, good friend, and noble woman! from Andy White. N. Brooklin, Maine. June 1970.' While inscribed copies of White's books are uncommon, those with good associations are exceptional. Mrs. Walden ran the secretarial and editorial assistant pool at the New Yorker after serving as Ross's secretary during World War II. Around the office, this talent was jokingly referred to as 'Walden Pond.' The experience of others might differ from our own, but we cannot recall ever seeing another inscribed copy of this title for sale. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
