Book in very good condition, lustrated in black and white by Francis Mosley, with a frontispiece and illustrations at the head of each chapter. Hand-bound in quarter Moroccan leather, with hand-woven Indian silk sides. Includes folding map to rear. In goatskin leather binding with Indian silk boards contained in scalloped leather decorated slipcases. Gilded top edges with ribbon page marker, Lettering on Slipcase and Book Spine designed by Calligrapher, John Andrew.

The Silmarillion is a collection of mythopoeic stories by the English writer J.R.R. Tolkien, edited and published posthumously by his son, Christopher Tolkien, in 1977, with assistance from fantasy fiction writer Guy Gavriel Kay. It is the primary source of Middle-earth's ancient history and provides a background to his other works, including 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings.'
