Description

(London: Jonathan Cape 1925). First UK Edition. Publisher's dull olive-green green boards with gilt lettering to the spine blind-stamped with the Cape logo to the back board. An attractive book-plate to the front past-down otherwise a near fine copy. The D/W is priced 7s 6d net to the inside flap (as called for). The D/W is VG indeed with just the merest hint of fraying at the spine tips. At the top right hand corner of the front panel (adjacent to the front flap) a former owner has injudiciously done an un-necessary tape repair to the verso which has resulted in glue residue (which just shows through to the front side of the D/W). Still an attractive copy of a scarce first edition with NO RESTORATION whatsoever. The basis for the award-winning 1935 RKO movie of the same name directed by John Ford and starring Victor Mclaglen, Heather Angel and Preston Foster which won 4 Oscars (Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Writing - Screenplay and Best Music). Haycraft Queen Cornerstone. Photographs/scans available upon request.

About The Informer

Set during the Irish War of Independence, 'The Informer' tells the story of Gypo Nolan, a man who betrays his friend, Frankie McPhillip, to the British authorities for a reward, and is subsequently consumed by guilt and paranoia. It is a gripping exploration of moral conflict and psychological turmoil.
