First edition. Original grey boards with gilt titles to the spine in pictorial dustwrapper designed by Mon Mohan. Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the title page, "For Joe Hunt / With best wishes and thanks / Bruce Chatwin / 9 Nov '83" A near fine copy with a couple of small indentations to the bottom edge of the boards, in a fine dustwrapper. Winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. The author's third novel, concerning happenings on the Welsh border over the course of a century. Presentation copies of Chatwin's work are rare.

On the Black Hill is a novel by Bruce Chatwin published in 1982. The story is a chronicle of 80 years in the lives of the identical twin brothers Lewis and Benjamin Jones, who live on a farm on the English-Welsh border, a region Chatwin famously dubbed 'the Black Hill'.
