Library of Classics Edition. Illustrated with frontispiece by Mary Shillabeer. Mary Shillabeer worked mostly as an illustrator of children's early readers, of which she illustrated a wide range. She illustrated relatively few books for older readers, but amongst them is the elegant frontispiece for this edition of The Mill on the Floss. Small 8vo., choicely bound in full red morocco, spine richly gilt with single green dot leather onlays, boards with gilt borders and central gilt lozenge with green leather onlays, housed in custom-made slipcase.

Published in 1860, 'The Mill on the Floss' is a realist novel by George Eliot, which features the complex and deep relationship of sister and brother Maggie and Tom Tulliver.
