First edition, in a handsome Riviere binding. This was Rossetti's first published collection of original poems, preceded by two private printings in 1869 and 1870. The collection opens with "The Blessed Damozel" and includes "Dante at Verona", "A Last Confession", "My Sister's Sleep", and a number of early sonnets.
Octavo. Finely bound by Riviere & Son in green morocco, raised bands ruled in gilt on spine, spine lettered in gilt, compartments tooled in gilt, covers richly gilt with floral motifs, edges and turn-ins tooled in gilt, purple endpapers, top edge gilt, others untrimmed.
Bound without advertisements and final blanks.
Extremities sunned and a touch rubbed, trivial crease to front free endpaper, clean and internally fresh. A very good copy indeed.
