New York: Harper & Brothers, 1942. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, first printing in the original dust jacket. Bound in publisher's green cloth with titles in brownish-red on the upper board, "first edition" is stated on the copyright page, with publisher's code "M-Q" on copyright page, indicating a printing date of December, 1941. Near Fine with light softening to corners and spine ends, pages tanned with a gentle diagonal crease to several preliminary sheets, and binding slightly pulled at bottom of title page gutter. In a Near Fine unclipped ($1.50) with light edge wear, light creases to spine with light wear at edges and a thin stain to the top of the front panel; toning to blindside with evidence of tape removal once mending two short edge-tears along the edge. An exceptional copy of this perennial favorite, scarcely seen in the dust jacket and scarcely seen in such nice condition.
