Originally published in 1909. this is the first British edition, one of 300 copies made up from the sheets of the first Grafton edition with a new title page, in the Grafton binding of dark blue-black vertically ribbed cloth stamped in gilt at spine and front cover. A Fine copy, with the merest hint of rubbing to the crown, unfaded, slight dulling of spine gilt, unworn, with clean text and endpapers. 279pp. This was Stein's first book, straightforward narratives in traditional prose.
