Roberts, C. Clark and S. Carline. With a folding map in black and red tipped in at the rear of the volume. 8vo, publisher s original rose polished cloth the upper cover with a pictorial decoration of Lawrence in Bedouin dress and lettering in black, the spine lettered in black and with a pictorial decoration of a desert scene. xvi, 335 pp. including the index. A very well preserved and handsome copy with very little evidence of use, the cloth is fresh and the binding sturdy and strong. The paper lightly mellowed and with occasional light mottling or a few spots of fox but quite less than is typical. FIRST EDITION WITH THE KENNINGTON DECORATED ENDLEAVES. This is the first publicly issued text of SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM prepared by Lawrence after the private printing of that book and edited by him for the general trade. Jonathan Cape had planned a new edition of REVOLT IN THE DESERT to come out after Lawrence death, but Lawrence s estate permitted instead the printing of the trade edition of the full text of SEVEN PILLARS instead. Thus, the work in this form was obtainable for only a very brief period of time.
