Yellow endpapers with bookplate to front pastedown. Bookseller embossed stamp to front free endpaper. Text clean. The signature mark 14 is present. Shelved in Case 2. Melville's first collection of short stories and the only one published in his lifetime. "Bartleby, the Scrivener," "Benito Cereno," and "The Encantadas" are regarded as Melville's most significant achievements in the genre of short fiction.
