Folio (31.5 cm), attractive contemporary Italian blind-stamped brown calf, boards with double phytomorphic roll borders and central lozenge, and arabesque tools, with gold title "PLA/TO" and monogram "L. S." on upper cover, and Platonis on gold on spine; head and top of spine defective, but a very genuine binding, unrestored. The twin leaves F2,7 and H3-6 strongly browned as usual, because of the own (and not uniform) quality of the paper used by the printer. Title in red, text in roman type with some passages in Greek, ff. (6), CCCLXXXIX (the ff. CXXI-CXXXVI editorially wrongly numbered as 167-179), lacking last blank. Third Latin edition (derived from that printed by Bern, De Choris in 1491), here in the famous translation by the great philosopher Marsilio Ficino, who much contributed to the fame of Plato s work in the Renaissance culture. Adams P-1442; BMC STC It. p. 524.
