Illustrated by Rackham with 12 color illustrations, each are present and with their original printed tissue guards. Arthur Rackham is widely regarded as one of the leading illustrators from the 'Golden Age' of British book illustration which encompassed the years from 1900 until the start of the First World War. A nice copy bound in its original vellum lettered and ruled in gilt, spine and top edge gilt with some light foxing or toning to boards, preliminary leaves with light scattered foxing, a few plates with foxing to outer margins but mostly clean, interior text clean. Previous owner's gift inscription noting that the copy is a rare edition, but today we would say moderately uncommon. Previous owner's bookplate.
