First edition, first impression. Just over a year after the first book in the Harry Potter series was published, Bloomsbury released Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on 2 July 1998. The print-run was confirmed by the publisher, after consultation with the printer, as only 706 copies. However, other sources suggest that 10,150 copies were released to an expectant public in the UK. Harry Potter was, as yet, unavailable in the US. Errington notes that a dispute between the American publishers and Amazon was "ignited" when "copies of the book were sent from Amazon in the UK to the US". Octavo. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The book centers around Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and his quest to uncover the mystery surrounding the Chamber of Secrets.
