First edition, first printing, preserved in exceptionally bright condition under the glassine. "Few American novels are so lavish in dramatic incident, so infused with images of sensation, so precisely fixed in place and weather" (Irving Howe, William Faulkner: A Critical Study, 1957, pp. 200-14).
Octavo. Original grey cloth, spine lettered in blue and front board in orange, top edge orange, fore edge uncut. With dust jacket and glassine wrapper.
With a contemporary newspaper review pasted to verso of dust jacket. An excellent copy with some extremely minor foxing; the particularly bright dust jacket and glassine wrapper with some nicks and closed tears to extremities, the rear panel of the jacket cockled and the glassine a little creased.
