Binding mildly edgeworn and rubbed, hinges cracked but tight on several volumes, previous owner's 1891 gift inscription on flyleaf of Vol I; Hardcovers (brown leather spines and tips/marbled boards) , edges and endpapers marbled. All bindings are uniform, but dates differ (1865-1867). Numerous engravings throughout, frontispieces with tissue guards in every volume, glossary at the end of Vol. 48.
