Description

(London: The Bodley Head, 1956). First UK Edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with silver titles to the spine in dustwrapper. Illustrated with line drawings by Pauline Baynes. A near fine copy (spine tips a trifle pushed; the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh). No inscriptions. No foxing to the page block edges. Clean and fresh interior. In the first issue dustwrapper priced 9s 6d net to the inside flap (as called for). The lightly rubbed VG+ dustwrapper is complete with a tiny amount of loss/creasing at the head of the spine. The rear panel and flaps have none of the usual heavy foxing (so often encountered with this title) and the back panel merely has a few, indiscriminate, very minor marks. The white portion to the middle of the spine (so often browned) is creamy white which is good to see. A nice copy of the final published novel in the Narnia Chronicles. Winner of the 1956 Carnegie Medal from the Library Association recognising the year's best children's book by a British subject. Photographs/scans available upon request.

About The Last Battle

The Last Battle is the seventh and final novel in the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. The plot involves the characters endeavoring to defend Narnia from an invasion led by a deceptive ape named Shift and his unwitting pawn Puzzle, a donkey. The book weaves a narrative of the apocalyptic end of the fictional world of Narnia and serves as an allegory of the Christian belief of the Last Judgment.
