Some light soiling, tiny spine chipped on crown and foot, corners showing .After publishing five novels, including the epic "Moby Dick", Melville turned his pen to poetry and the world aroung him. Melville based his Civil War poems on firsthand experience, and rather than glorify battle, he poignantly depicts the horrors and the waste of it. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown.
