First edition, a lovely copy of Say's scarce work, inscribed by him to the head of the half title "De la part de l'auteur". From the library of Amable-Guillaume-Prosper Brugière, Baron de Barante (1782-1866), diplomat, politician, writer and historian, with his bookplate to the front pastedown. Published shortly after the appearance of the second edition of his Traité d'économie politique, Say's Catéchisme gives a brief introduction to his thought, written in a dialogue form to appeal to a wider audience. Duodecimo (178 x 106 mm). Contemporary blue-grey boards, cream paper spine, printed paper label. Spine ends a little chipped, boards a little spotted, front joint cracking at foot; printed ex-libris of the Bibliothèque de Mr. de Barante to front pastedown, remnants of shelf label to foot of spine; occasional very light spotting; a splendid copy, uncut and largely unopened.
