SIGNED and dated [4/10/77] by Ayn Rand and her husband, Frank O'Connor, on the night of The Ford Hall Forum's tribute to Ayn Rand. "In honoring Ayn Rand, the Ford Hall Forum does honor to itself," opens the invitation to the Forum's "Tribute to Ayn Rand -- Sheraton Boston Hotel -- Boston Mass. -- Sunday, April 10, 1977" In recognition of Rand's commanding popularity of her annual Ford Hall Forum speeches, "a gathering that has been termed the 'Objectivist Easter'" (The New York Times), the Forum invited Miss Rand and her guests to a luncheon, followed by her lecture, "Global Balkanization." One year later at the Forum, Rand delivered her lecture "Cultural Update," (VERY RARE) which, she admits "should have been delivered last year on the occasion of the beautiful luncheon the Forum gave for me." During his journey, Equality 7-2521 meets Liberty 5-3000, a woman who shares his desire for freedom. They begin to develop feelings for each other, which is forbidden in their society. They break free from the constraints of their collectivist world and explore their individuality together. As they venture beyond the boundaries of their society, Equality 7-2521 rediscovers the lost concept of the word "I" and embraces his own identity. He realizes the significance of individualism and the power of independent thought. The novella culminates in Equality 7-2521 rejecting the society's dogmas and embracing his own free will and individuality. "Anthem" serves as a powerful critique of collectivism and authoritarianism, championing the importance of individualism, personal identity, and the pursuit of knowledge and happiness.
