Often called Pogany's masterpiece, this production owes much to the aesthetics of Morris's Kelmscott Press and Ricketts's Vale Press, as well as artists like Gustave Doré and Aubrey Beardsley. Printed on silky, high-quality paper, each page features decorative borders and interlocking designs in subtle colors. A gorgeous book. 12.5'' x 9''. Original full brown calf, gilt-stamped and -lettered. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Illustrated by Pogany with 20 tipped-in color plates, calligraphic text, decorative borders plus a profusion of stunning illustrations in color and line throughout text, many full-page. Signed by Pogany on limitation page. Joints expertly repaired, with some additional careful repair to boards where leather has been scuffed all along edges.
