Quarter black cloth cover with pictorial boards is islightly toned with wear to spine caps and modest soiling but in very good condition. Boards and spine are straight. Binding is tight. Very faint modest thumbprint on about 4 pages otherwise pages are clean and very good. Dust jacket is worn at the extremities with several short tears, toned, and soiled with erasure of former owner's name on front flap. First Edition/Second Issue points include: Publisher's price of $3.50 on DJ flap with '40-80' and 1163 and lower corner clipped; 2 paragraphs rather than 3 on front flap (first printing calls for 3) ; gold foil Caldecott medal on front panel and mention of Caldecott award on back flap; Title page carries correct publication information including: Harper & Row, copyright 1963, LCCC number 63-21253.

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, originally published by Harper & Row. The book has been adapted into other media several times, including an animated short in 1973 (with an updated version in 1988), a 1980 opera, and a live-action 2009 feature-film adaptation. The book tells the story of Max, a young boy who dresses up as a wolf and uses his imagination to travel to a wild forest where he meets creatures called Wild Things.
