[Second Sino-Japanese War] SIGNED FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.301 [3]. With an illustrated frontispiece and a suite of 16 double-sided black and white photographic plates. SIGNED by Christopher Isherwood in black ink to the title page. Publisher's dark grey cloth with yellow titles to red backing on the spine. With the illustrated dust-jacket, priced at 12/6. Light toning and spotting to edges and endpapers, otherwise internally clean. Jacket shows a little toning to spine, with some wear and chipping to head and tail. Near fine. Billed as a follow-up to Auden and MacNeice's 'Letters from Iceland' (1937), this hybrid production combines poems and photographs by Auden with Isherwood's diary of a four-month trip to China during the Second Sino-Japanese War, to create a multifaceted picture of the conflict.
