Octavo, pp. [1-10] [1-2] 3-366 [367-370: blank] [note: first two and last two leaves are blanks], original black cloth, front panel stamped in blind, spine panel stamped in gold, running Borzoi stamped in blind on rear panel, top edge stained maroon, fore-edge untrimmed, bottom edge rough trimmed. First U.S. edition. Traven's most famous novel and his second book published in America. This edition was prepared from Traven's English-language manuscript, but supposedly was heavily rewritten by Knopf's editorial staff. A fine copy in near fine pictorial dust jacket (designed by Wetherill) with the original price of $2.50 on the front flap. Unlike most other copies on the market, this jacket has NO restoration. Housed in a custom-made clamshell case.
