Translated from the Russian by Constance Garnett. Early (6th) printing of the first American edition, first published in 1912. Volume I of "The Novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky". 8vo, xii + 838pp. Hardcover, bound in original cloth with gilt stamped title to spine. In good plus to very good minus condition. Binding and hinges are intact but slightly shaken, with webbing visible at several gatherings. Private bookplate to front pastedown and small raised blind stamp to bottom corner of free front endpaper ("Bought from Lindmark's Book Shop Poughkeepsie New York"), otherwise contents are clean and unmarked. Printed on cheap wartime paper which has browned uniformly throughout. Covers are in good condition with some shelf-wear and rubbing to extremities inclusing a short closed tear to head of backstrip. The gilt title to spine is a little dulled but still legible. All in all, this remains a good, solid, copy of an important book. Uncommon in any condition.
