Description

Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius (c.480-524), Roman philosopher and translator of Aristotle. His most famous work was De consolatone philosophiae, written during his imprisonment at Pavia. Between the end of the sixteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century, there were no fewer than ten complete translations and seven partial translations of the Latin Consolatio. This is a first edition of the translation by the diplomat and politician Richard Graham, 1st Viscount Preston (1648-95). PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 8vo, engraved portrai frontispiece, xxxii, 246, [1] pp., contemporary speckled calf, spine richly gilt in compartments with red morocco label, title-page lightly browned, otherwise fresh, a very good copy.
