Originally created as a present for her husband's niece, the book was at first rejected by every publisher Tudor approached. For her second approach, she sewed the pages together, bound the covers in blue polka dotted cloth, and started over, meeting with success at Oxford University Press on her first meeting with their newest editor, Eunice Blake. Full color illustrations throughout by the author, full color pictorial endpapers, reproduced from Tudor's original hand-lettered manuscript.
