Description

First edition, first impression, in exceptional condition. Fleming's final novel was published eight months after his death and was adapted into the 1974 film starring Roger Moore. Fleming had stated to his editor, "this is, alas, the last Bond", adding that this time he meant it. His estate authorized one final James Bond book under his name, the story collection Octopussy and The Living Daylights (1966). This copy is from the first issue, with green and white endpapers and the final words of the half-title verso reading "Adventures 1 and 2" (later changed to white endpapers and "1, 2 and 3"). The binding is in the second state as usual, without the gun design blocked in gilt on the front cover. The design proved expensive and was dropped after the first 940 copies were sent abroad. Octavo. Original black boards (Gilbert's binding A), spine lettered in gilt, green and white patterned endpapers. With dust jacket. One small abrasion to jacket rear flap, remaining a fine copy in fine, unclipped jacket. Gilbert A13a (1.2).

About The Man with the Golden Gun

The Man with the Golden Gun is the twelfth novel (and thirteenth book) of Ian Fleming's James Bond series. It was first published by Jonathan Cape in the UK on 1 April 1965, eight months after the author's death. The novel was not as detailed or polished as the others in the series, leading to poor but polite reviews. Despite that, the book was a best-seller. The story centers on the fictional British Secret Service agent Commander James Bond, who had been thought dead, only to return to the Secret Service alive and well. In the novel, Bond is sent to assassinate Francisco 'Pistols' Scaramanga, a notorious hitman, who is believed to be responsible for the disappearance of several British intelligence operatives.
