First edition. Octavo. 80pages. One of the most important twentieth-century collections of poems.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed by him on the front free endpaper: ''To Charles - [drawing of a crow] for October 12th 1970 with my best wishes from Ted''. The recipient is Charles Monteith who a few years later became Chairman of Faber and Faber. This copy comes from the collection of fellow Faber director Rosemary Goad, so it is possible that Monteith never in fact took possession. The drawing of the crow, by the way, demonstrates Hughes's impressive draughtsmanship.Near fine in very good dustwrapper a bit darkened at the spine and slightly chipped at the head of the spine.
