Description

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. Having been protected by a dustwrapper for the past 100+ years, the book is in brilliant condition. The scarce dustwrapper has minor edgewear, a chip at the spine head extending slightly to the rear panel. Fine bright copy in a scarce Very Good dustwrapper. The third issue of Stevens's first book, one of only 715 copies in blue cloth of a total edition of 1500. Perhaps the most important first book of poetry of the 20th century.

About Harmonium

Harmonium is the first book of poetry by American poet Wallace Stevens, published in 1923. The collection includes many of Stevens' most famous poems such as 'Sunday Morning,' 'Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,' and 'The Emperor of Ice-Cream.' It is noted for its lush language, imaginative landscapes, and thematic richness.

Identifying the First Edition of Harmonium

First edition copies feature an error in the fourth line of the poem 'The Worms at Heaven’s Gate', where 'invisible green' is printed as 'invisible grey'.
