Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine, and titles and decoration in black, grey and blue to upper. A black ink ownership to fly-leaf, and some toning and spotting to edges and endpapers, otherwise internally clean. Spine toned and rubbed, with a few water stains. Minor wear to boards, with a couple of very light ring-marks to upper. Very good. Originally serialised in the Strand Magazine, Churchill's account of British territory in East Africa represents the author at his journalistic best. Because it was written, or perhaps dictated, on the spot, it echoes much of the freshness to be found in 'Malakand Field Force' and is a showcase for Churchill's powers of observation.
